BMAC served as the building envelope consultant for the careful restoration and modernization of a heritage 3-storey single-family home in Vancouver’s character retention zone. Our work balanced historic preservation with contemporary performance standards through meticulous envelope detailing.
Key to the project was upgrading weather protection while maintaining the architectural features of the building originally built in 1905. We implemented a comprehensive air barrier strategy and conducted blower door testing, achieving 1.8 ACH at 50Pa – a significant improvement comparable with current step code airtightness targets. Our envelope solutions addressed the unique challenges of retrofitting century-old construction while respecting heritage guidelines.
